Airport Jobs in Canada
The Canadian Airline industry is arguably one of the most profitable industries the country has with profits expected to reach 1.5 billion dollars in 2020. Since oil buying makes up a major portion of the company expenditure, the sharp decrease in oil prices in the last year will provide a temporary benefit to the profit of the industry. As with other places of work such as hospital and train stations anairport provides a multitude of job opportunities of different salaries to people of every qualification.
There are several different types of jobs available at the airport from the highest paying jobs which would be air hostesses who earn 23,000 CAD to over 63,000 CAD and pilots who earn from 36,000 CAD to 154,192 CAD. However, for both these jobs, the employee needs to complete an air hostess course and complete flight school and hold a pilot medical certificate respectively. To meet the minimum qualifications for both these jobs, it would require a significant amount of investment and time. However, both these jobs accompany unique perks such as free airline tickets, the best hotel accommodation and travelling.
While the previously mentioned two jobs require very special qualifications, other jobs also exist such as aircraft maintenance engineer which require qualifications such as masters in aeronautical engineering, which is a more common qualification compared to a pilot certification. These engineers earn roughly the same, as an air hostess while enjoying similar perks. However, airports also provide jobs such as baggage handler, pre board screening officer, and ramp agents. Some require the employee to attend training sessions or in certain cases on the job training is also allowed where experienced employees train recruits. Other jobs such as the baggage handler require the employee only to have a basic understanding of driving and responsibility to ensure correct placement of baggage. These jobs pay an average hourly wage of 11 CAD to 21 CAD or upto 40,000 CAD per year. While their salary is lower compared to the other jobs, they are provided workplace community benefits such as health benefits and life insurance, reduced price on plane tickets etc.
The workplace of an airport provides both opportunities for qualified and unqualified workers to make a decent wage and with the currently stable condition of this industry job security is also high.
